Create Search Engine Friendly Custom URLs

Make post URLs search engine optimization friendly

You might have noticed that Google bolds key words in a URL in SERP. It takes it as a clue to figure out the relevancy of a page for the target key terms. Though it doesn’t make any significant difference, however it’s a good thought to make your URLs search engine optimization friendly.

Listed below are some actionable suggestions:
  • Keep your URL quick and candy.
  • Be make sure it includes most important keyword phrases.
  • Hinder stop words. (wish to, for, your and so forth)
An excellent example is URL of this publishes – http://www.geekbd.com/on-page-seo-checklist/.

Link Optimization Tips:

It is important to optimize your internal & external outbound links for search engines as well as to give your visitors a better navigation.
Important elements of Link Optimization:
  • Try using good Anchor Text when you are linking to other people. Include the appropriate keyword in the anchor text which gives the outbound link a ‘proper meaning’ and value.
  • A good & clean Internal Link Structure with proper use of anchor text will definitely help. E.g. “Credit Card Application” is a better anchor text compared to “click here”
  • If you are using a CMS, then try using permalinks. This way your keywords/post title will be on the link itself and thus it will valued more by the search engines.

BlogSpot Permalink for Better SEO:

When it comes to Permalink configuration on single post level, the basic idea is to remove all stop words and use Keywords in your permalink. You can target short-tail or long-tail Keywords, depending upon which Keyword you are targeting. , your Keywords are separated by ‘-‘ (Dash). For now, you can use following characters in custom URL field (A-Z) (a-z)(0-1), underscore, dash and period. I won’t recommend using underscore in permalink. You should use the main keyword in domain name. When your create any page or write any post, keep your page/post URL short and clean. Use the keyword that mainly describe about the page or post.
Permalink is the URL of our blog posts. It’s a killer location to add really targeted keywords. When you write a post, Blogger automatically generates a permalink (a URL that links to a blog post) for your post from its title. If you prefer to use a custom permalink, you can do so via the “Permalink” option in the Post Settings box.
Although you’ll still have the option to generate the URLs for posts automatically, the customized option gives you the flexibility to choose a URL that is different from your title. For example, you may want to choose an SEO-friendly url if you have a more obscure title.
By default, permalinks create on the basis of our post’s titles. But we can use our custom permalinks to add our keywords.
To add custom permalinks go to your Post Editor > click on Permalink from the right side menu and choose Custom Permalink. Add your main keywords there and press Done button.
If you wrote the post in March of 2012, your new URL will look like this:
www.nameofblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/customURL.html
The bolded area is the part of the URL that is customizable.
If you choose Automatic Blogger will generate the URL from the title of your post. So let’s say you created a post on March of 2012, and you titled it "Optimize blog post link." The URL for that post would look like this:
www.nameofblog.blogspot.com/2012/03/Optimize-blog-post-link.html
Note: Always try to use only targeted keywords in permalinks. Other non important words should be ignored.

Very recently Google has introduced a new feature which you may be looking for. Now you are able to change Google + profile URL to custom URL. You can get rid of previous long, numbered and complex url.

Why Custom Google + Profile URL?

If you had a custom url something like plus.google.com/+Yourname, it would be easy to remember and share to your clients, friends or family members. And now you can get an easy custom Google + URL following some easy steps.

How to Get Custom Google + Profile URL

To change your Google Plus profile url, visit your Google plus profile. On the top, you will find a sticky bar like the following.

Joomla SEO Enable SEF URLs and URL Rewriting

In your Joomla! Global Configuration set the "Search Engine Friendly URLs" and "Use URL Rewriting" options to "Yes".
joomla seo settings url
Search Engine Friendly URLs is the setting that removes all the dynamically generated gobbledygook from your URL and replaces it with the alias of the menu item that you're using on the page.
URL Rewriting is the setting that removes the /index.php/ from the URL. For this to be enabled must have mod_rewrite enabled and must have a .htaccess file.
The balance of the settings are really left more up to your discretion. I tend to prefer leaving the other three off. You may like to turn on the option to include your Site Name in your page titles, particularly if the site has a lot of content. Personally, I like to micro-manage everything and craft each title separately in most instances

Use Google Disavow Links Tool:

Google kept on changing its algorithm to provide users with a better search tool. In an attempt to improve its search algorithm, it has been continuously penalizing websites that do not comply with its guidelines. However, there are some errors in the algorithm which lead to penalizing sites with spam backlinks which aren’t in the control of the webmaster.
To rescue such blog owners, Google has created its own Disavow Link tool wherein webmasters or blog owners can appeal for reconsideration by submitting the list of spam links pointed to your site (list of spam site URLs where your site is linked).
As per Google “If you’ve done as much work as you can to remove spammy or low-quality links from the web, and are unable to make further progress on getting the links taken down, you can disavow the remaining links. In other words, you can ask Google not to take certain links into account when assessing your site.”

How to Make Use of the Google Disavow Link Feature?
1.     Login to your Google Webmaster Tools account and then choose the website that is penalized.
2.     From the left side menu, click on Traffic > Links to your site > More.
3.     Click “Download this Table” to download the list of URLs or sites that are linking to your site.
4.     From the list, select the URLs that you think are spammy. Compose a text file (notepad) and insert the spam site URLs that linked to you one link/line.
Note: If you think a complete website is having spam links pointing to your site, then simply use its main domain instead of internal post URLs. Ex: www.domain.com
5.     Save the text file to something like disavowlist.txt
6.     Now, go to the Disvow Links tool and choose the website you wish to appeal from the drop-down list and then click “Diavow Links”.
7.     On the next, click on “Disavow links” again and from the pop-up menu, attach the file with the list of spam links (Step 6).
8.     Click on Upload and Submit.
That’s it! You’ve successfully submitted a request to Google to ignore spam links that point to your site. All you’ve to do next is to wait up to 1-2 weeks for Google to re-index your website. You can check the status of your site crawl rate from Health > Crawl Stats.
Note: Disavow Links is an advanced feature and should only be used with caution. If used incorrectly, this feature can potentially harm your site’s performance in Google’s search results. We recommend that you only disavow backlinks if you believe you have a considerable number of spammy, artificial, or low-quality links pointing to your site, and if you are confident that the links are causing issues for you.
