What is indexing of a website?

I know many people here are not aware of the term indexing. Indexing in SEO means, making search engine keep a record of your WebPages in search engine. We should target all major search engine (Google, Bing).

Usually when a search engine bot comes on your site, it starts crawling and based on “index” and “Noindex” meta tags, it adds pages with “index” tags in search engine. Here is the synopsis of strategy which I used to put both the website in search engine within 24 hours. Apart from Onpage SEO optimization like meta tags, meta keywords, meta description and On site SEO (Noindex, nofollow) robots.txt, sitemap main strategy was put the website in search engine in few hours.

Well, before you try to index a website (new), make sure you have your content ready. As you don’t want Google bot to come and just crawl your empty homepage. As I mentioned above, make sure you do all basic On site SEO and then work on the below method to  get your site indexed fast.

Submit Your Website to Search Engines: Now that you have a sitemap for your website (or blog) you first need to tell the search engines that your site exists.

Check your website: You can try this with any new domain you have bought or any site which you created but you are not getting any traffic from search engines. very first, step is to check if your site is indexed in Google or any other search engine or not. Go to Google.com and type site:domain.com
Replace domain.com with actual domain name (ex: shoutmeloud.com) and check if site is indexed or not. If there is no results, it’s time to work on following given step and get your site in Google.

Submitting Your Site to Google: Let’s start with Google.

1. Go ahead and create a Google account if you do not already have one. (if you have a Gmail account or Google+, then you can use that same login)
You can do this anywhere in Google, but you might as well start at Webmaster Tools as we are heading there next anyway.
2. Head to Google Webmaster Tools and login (or create an account)
3. Add your website via the Add A Site field
4. Now Google will ask you to verify your site by adding one of the following to your site

• a. Add a html file to your site
• b. Add a meta tag to the header of your site

What you need to do for each I have written below:
If you are technical, either of these is quite straight forward:

• a.  login in to your hosting and copy the html file from Google to your www directory
• b.  copy the meta tag to your page header
• You can do this in wordpress via the Appearance -> Editor menu
• On the right, find and click on header.php
• Then add the meta tag anywhere between <header> and </header>

If you are NOT technical, there is an alternative

• Install the WordPress SEO Plugin from Yoast
• Go to the SEO -> Dashboard and there is a field there where you can paste the Meta Tag for Google (This is a great shortcut)

Add Your Website to Bing: Adding your site to Bing is the same as adding it to Google

1. Create a Bing Account and login to Webmaster Tools
2. Go to Add a Site in the menu
3. Add Your Site URL
4. Now you need to verify your site via a file or Meta tag.
